DPR Commission I will resume discussions on the Bill Amending Law No. 32 of 2002 on Broadcasting ("Broadcasting Law") ("Broadcasting Bill") after the recess period. Deputy Chairman of DPR Commission I, Dave Akbarshah Fikarno Laksono, stated that the Broadcasting Bill has been included in the National Legislative Program (Prolegnas) for completion during the 2024-2029 period.
"We certainly hope this Broadcasting Law can be finalized soon because the process is already complete. Only harmonization remains," said Dave during the inauguration of high-ranking officials at the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi).
According to the March 27, 2024, draft of the Broadcasting Bill obtained by Hukumonline, several articles are considered contradictory to other regulations and could lead to vague interpretations. In response, Dave acknowledged that aspirations and perspectives from various parties had been gathered to align the Broadcasting Bill with current digitalization trends.
"There are some differing views and perceptions, but we have aligned them to ensure uniform application. The discussion of this bill started in 2012, so we aim to complete it swiftly without further revisions, requiring only implementing regulations to adapt to the latest digitalization and broadcasting trends," he stated.
