The discussion on the Draft Law regarding the Amendment of Law Number 32 of 2014 on Maritime Affairs is still ongoing. Member of Commission IV of the House of Representatives, Saadiyah Uluputty, stated that there is a possibility the regulation will take the form of an omnibus law.
“There needs to be some kind of omnibus law for the maritime sector. Indonesia's seas don't just need a single, ordinary law. The maritime sector requires various regulations to accommodate cross-sectoral matters,” said Saadiyah to Hukumonline.
The plan to unify key regulations was submitted to the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in January 2025.
Several aspects proposed in the draft include the management of maritime sovereignty, protection, development, exploration, resources management, licensing, and economy of the community. “This way, the existing laws can be incorporated into a single omnibus law,” she added.
