DPR Prepares Legal Umbrella for Free Nutritious Meal Policy

The House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat- “ DPR ”) is currently drafting a budget policy to support the Free Nutritious Meal (Program Makan Bergizi Gratis- “ MBG ”) program. The DPR Budget Agency has approved a budget allocation for the MBG program of Rp71 trillion in the 2025 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget.

“Supporting policies for the five-year program are being prepared. Later, the plan is to lead it to the Ministry of Trade and Cooperatives,” said a DPR Expert Staff who declined to be named to Hukumonline.

Furthermore, the legal umbrella related to the MBG program will be able to provide accountability and control over the production and distribution mechanisms in the management of the budget. The MBG program aims to encourage improved child nutrition while simultaneously driving the Micro-, Small- and Medium-Scale Enterprises (Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah- “ UMKM ”) economy, thus providing a double impact on the national economy.

“Later, it will also be prepared from the upstream level to food availability,” he said.
