Member of Commission VI of the House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat – “DPR”) Bane Raja Manalu is pushing for the establishment of a new institution in the Draft Bill on Textile (“Draft Textile Bill”).
“To have an institution or agency that handles textile, even if it is not in the form of a ministry. Because the textile industry contributes 20 percent of Indonesia’s manufacturing and there are 5 million workers in the textile industry and its derivatives,” Bane told Hukumonline.
The institution will handle technology, human resources, target markets, supply chains, supervision. It can consist of representatives from the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Finance, associations, and experts; and work together with Micro-, Small-, and Medium-Scale Enterprises (UMKM).
“The trick is not to let the market in this republic be damaged by dumping practices from many countries. If this practice is carried out, only a few people will benefit. I think later there will be an institution created,” he said.
