DPR Urges to Strengthen Regulation on Illegal Mining

Commission XII of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Republik Indonesia– “ DPR RI ”) urged the Minister of Environment (Lingkungan Hidup– “ LH ”) to coordinate with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to establish specific regulation addressing the issue of illegal mining.
Member of Commission XII DPR from the PAN faction, Aqib Ardiansyah, provided input for the immediate establishment of regulation such as a roadmap for the resolution of illegal mining, which is rampant in various regions. According to Aqib, the issue of illegal mining is directly related to the flood disasters occurring in several regions.
“We hope to have a clear roadmap in addressing illegal mining cases from the environmental sector,” said Aqib.
Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of Commission XII of the Gerindra Faction, Bambang Haryadi, emphasized that criminal sanctions against environmental impacts should be strengthened by the Ministry of LH. He opened the option for the establishment of a special committee if the issue cannot be resolved by the Working Committee (Panja) on illegal mining and the environment.
“We all factions agree, if it cannot be resolved in the illegal mining Panja, and the environmental Panja, we will escalate it to a special committee that will involve all the commissions present here,” emphasized Bambang
