Draft Bill on Transportation Regulates Energy Conservation

The Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development (“ Kemenko IPK ”) is finalizing a Draft Bill (“ Draft Bill ”)on the National Transportation System (Sistem Transportasi Nasional- “ Sistranas ”). One of the substantive provisions included in the Draft Bill concerns environmental protection and energy conservation.

“It has been incorporated into Sistranas with regard to environmental protection and energy conservation. This is important,” said Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.

The regulation is expected to reduce carbon emissions generated by various modes of transportation, while also strengthening the decarbonization roadmap for the transportation sector currently being developed by Kemenko IPK.

In addition, the Sistranas Draft Bill is also aimed at streamlining a total of 27 regulations, consisting of 12 laws, 6 government regulations, 5 presidential regulations, and 4 ministerial regulations. “It is now being discussed in the inter-ministerial committee because it involves many ministries and agencies,” said Agus.
