The Ministry of Environment/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH) is continuing to finalize a Draft Ministerial Regulation (“RPermen”) on Air Pollution Control from Stationary Sources. This regulation will establish industrial emission quality standards.
“The discussion is currently ongoing. Once it becomes a regulation, it will have significant consequences; therefore, the process is not being rushed,” stated Edward Nixon Pakpahan, the Director of Air Quality Protection and Management at KLH/BPLH.
The substance of the Rpermen includes the tightening of industrial emission quality standards, covering sectors ranging from manufacturing to power generation, with the objective of reducing air pollution. It also introduces stricter sanctions for non-compliance. KLH/BPLH will focus on hazardous pollutants, including particulate matter, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and carbon monoxide.
“The Draft Regulation has reached the harmonization stage with the Ministry of Law,” said the Deputy for Pollution and Environmental Damage Control at KLH/BPLH, Rasio Ridho Sani, to Hukumonline.
