Draft Perpres on SAF Ensures Legal Certainty for Aviation Investment

The Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development is promoting the acceleration of draft Regulation of the President (“ Perpres ”) on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (“ SAF ”). The regulation is intended to ensure legal certainty for investment in the aviation industry sector.

“With the support of a regulatory framework, the issuance of Perpres on SAF would be beneficial in providing assurance to all stakeholders, including industry players,” said the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.

This regulation will serve as the legal basis for the phased mandatory use of environmentally friendly aviation turbine fuel by the aviation industry as part of an emissions-reduction strategy, while simultaneously fostering the development of SAF ecosystem. At present, the use of SAF has been piloted on Pelita Air international flight routes.

“This will provide clarity—clarity on pricing and other aspects. Most importantly, it will offer certainty, clarity, confidence, and trust,” he stated.
