Draft PP on Biodiversity Credit

The Ministry of Environment/Environment Control Agency (“ KLH/BPLH ”) is preparing Draft Regulation of the Government (“ RPP ”) on Protection and Management of Biodiversity (Perlindungan dan Pengelolaan Keanekaragaman Hayati- “ PPKH ”). The Ministry is also preparing a pilot project for the implementation of biodiversity credits.

“As the world’s second-largest megadiverse country, we have a responsibility to ensure the sustainability of natural resources,” said Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Minister of Environment/Head of Environment Control Agency.

Biodiversity credits are part of strengthening the national biodiversity financing framework and the transformation toward a nature-positive approach. This credit scheme provides incentives for business actors, government entities, or individuals who make direct investments in biodiversity protection.

Pilot project for the implementation of biodiversity credits takes into account ecosystem readiness and the socio-economic benefits for surrounding communities. In addition, KLH/BPLH is also drafting a nature-positive policy and the utilization of biodiversity credit instruments as part of the transformation of biodiversity values into the national economic framework.
