The government is drafting a Regulation of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries concerning the Implementation of Raw Material Standards for Fish Processing Units.
The regulated substance regarding the standard requirements for raw materials must be met by business actors from upstream to downstream; as well as convenience for business actors who have implemented raw material standards.
Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Budi Sulistiyo mentioned the impact of regulations on entrepreneurs and the state. The existence of standards for raw materials and fishery products in order to be able to compete internationally.
"For the national fisheries industry, it will increase competitiveness through product quality assurance and increasing the added value of fisheries products," Budi told hukumonline.com.
The standard reference for raw materials will reduce the possibility of low-quality raw materials entering the processing production chain, thereby reducing yield losses, and increasing the efficiency and productivity of the processing process. Meanwhile, on the market side, meeting export standards will be easier for the fisheries industry, especially markets that set strict regulations such as the European Union, the United States, or Japan.
