The Indonesian Electrical Equipment Manufacturers Association (Asosiasi Produsen Peralatan Listrik Indonesia– “ APPI ”) has proposed several policy measures that the government should take to strengthen the competitiveness of products, particularly those from the electrical equipment industry.
Helvin Herman Tirtadjaja, Chairman of Standardization at APPI, emphasized the importance of strengthening the aspects of product standardization and harmonization of government regulations to enhance product competitiveness. Currently, efforts to harmonize the Indonesian National Standard (Standar Nasional Indonesia– “ SNI ”) with international standards such as the International Organization for Standardization (“ ISO ”) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (“ IEC ”) are necessary to ensure that products are accepted in global markets.
“We should refer to international committees such as IEC or ISO,” said Helvin.
In addition to standardization, APPI also encourages regulatory harmonization to support business certainty in the electrical sector. According to Helvin, regulations scattered across various ministries/agencies have become one of the obstacles in doing business. Regulatory synchronization is needed to support the sustainability of the industry.
“We need regulations that support us as industry players who have already invested in Indonesia,” Helvin concluded.
