ESDM Plans to Integrate Emissions Reporting Across All Sectors

The Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (Energi Baru, Terbarukan, dan Konservasi Energi- “ EBTKE ”) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (“ ESDM ”) plans to consolidate the emissions reporting systems that are currently operating separately across various ministries. The Director General (Dirjen) of EBTKE, Eniya Listiani Dewi, explained that, to date, industries have been required to submit emissions reports through more than one ministerial platform.

“Industries currently report their emissions to the Ministry of Industry using their system. At our office, we also have the Online Energy Management Reporting system (Pelaporan Online Manajemen Energi- “ POME ”). The Ministry of Environment and Forestry also has a system. These systems need to be coordinated so that everything refers to a single platform,” Eniya stated.

This initiative is intended to streamline the reporting process for industry and to ensure the consistency of national emissions data. The current emissions reporting framework, which is dispersed across several ministries, may cause confusion among business actors; therefore, harmonization is necessary to enable a more efficient emissions monitoring process.

ESDM further considers that such integration will facilitate the Government in compiling centralized emissions data, particularly as the final reports will ultimately be submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
