The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (“ESDM”) is preparing National Energy General Plan Draft (Rancangan Umum Energi Nasional - “RUEN”) using an approach that is tailored to the energy resource potential and consumption characteristics of each region. This approach is expected to optimize the implementation of the energy transition in accordance with the conditions of each respective region.
“This RUEN approach contains key strategies in the energy transition, including the potential availability of energy based on regional areas,” said Deputy Minister of ESDM Yuliot Tanjung.
Yuliot explained that in the latest RUEN draft, the government divides Indonesia into the Sumatra corridor, Java–Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua. This division is intended to ensure that energy transition planning is aligned with natural resource potential and energy consumption profiles in each region.
According to him, the formulation of these corridors also takes into account the availability of data, which is predominantly collected at the provincial level. In addition, the regional delineation considers the differing characteristics of each province, particularly in terms of energy consumption and natural resource potential, while also facilitating synchronization with regional policies and planning in accordance with the needs of both the community and the industrial sector.
