The Geospatial Information Agency (Badan Informasi Geospasial-“ BIG ”) is currently developing a Geospatial Data Sharing Protocol, which will serve as a guideline regulating the standards for the publication and use of Geospatial Information (“ IG ”) in Indonesia. The purpose of this protocol is to ensure the accuracy and precision of data utilized across various sectors, particularly in development planning.
“We are currently preparing a Geospatial Data Sharing Protocol,” said Ratna Saridewi, Head of the Geospatial Information Competency Development Center (Pusat Pengembangan Kompetensi Informasi Geospasial- “ PPKIG ”) at BIG.
Ratna explained that the protocol will provide clear boundaries regarding the level of data precision that may be used. For example, high-sensitivity services, such as precision positioning, must utilize data sources and formats that meet stringent technical standards. BIG emphasizes that these regulations are established to maintain the quality of data used in national projects.
Furthermore, Ratna stated that these regulations are necessary to support reliable development planning, and that the use of inaccurate or outdated maps is not permitted in national projects. The protocol is also planned to be integrated with the One Map Policy (Kebijakan Satu Peta– “ KSP ”) platform to ensure that all shared data is verified and synchronized with national standards.
