The Indonesian Tin Exporters Association (Asosiasi Eksportir Timah Indonesia – “AETI”) s encouraging the government to form tin sand import regulations to fulfill domestic downstreaming capacity. AETI member, Faisal Aswan explained that the tin downstreaming industry has difficulty fulfilling downstreaming production capacity due to the lack of resources from domestic mining results, so imports are needed.
“Therefore, we think, don't just rely on domestic mining results for tin development,” Faisal told Hukumonline.
According to him, opening up imports is not only about fulfilling downstreaming production capacity but can also maintain the sustainability of domestic tin sand production. In addition, Faisal also hopes that the export provisions for imported tin sand products can also be regulated, especially in a Regulation of the Minister of Trade.
Responding to this, the Acting Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Trade (Kementerian Perdagangan – “Kemendag”), Isy Karim, admitted that he had received direct input from business actors regarding the expectations for these regulations. Isy ensured that his party would evaluate together with business actors regarding a number of regulations related to tin trade governance.
"The point is that we want to conduct a joint evaluation between Kemendag, related Ministries/Institutions (Kementerian/Lembaga – “K/L”) , and our association friends to sit down together later," he explained.
