The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) hopes that the implementation of Safeguard Import Duty ( “ BMTP ”)/ Safeguardfor ceramic tile commodities can be carried out until 2026.
Director of Cement, Ceramics, and Non-metallic Mineral Processing Industry of the Ministry of Industry Putu Nadi Astuti explained that one of the major challenges of the Indonesian ceramic industry is global competition with China, India and Vietnam. The flood of imported ceramic products has encouraged the government not only to implement Anti-Dumping Import Duty (“ BMAD ”) but also needs to be complemented by BMTP.
Putu explained that several policies are being pushed to address the issue. Currently, the Ministry of Industry, according to him, is waiting for the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) regarding the implementation of BMTP for ceramic tiles until 2026, which should have been issued last year.
"Including the imposition of BMTP or safeguardfor ceramic tiles which should have been implemented or imposed in November last year but until now has not been issued by the Ministry of Finance," said Putu.
The implementation of BMTP is believed to be able to complement other policies such as the obligation of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI), and BMAD as a government effort to maintain the performance of the domestic ceramics industry.
