The government is currently discussing a Draft Regulation of the President on Critical and Strategic Minerals. Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (“ESDM”) Yuliot Tanjung confirmed that discussions on the draft regulation are still being held in coordination with the Deputy for Energy and Mineral Resources Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.
“The discussion is still ongoing. Currently, it is under the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs,” Yuliot told Hukumonline.
Yuliot explained that the drafting of this regulation is one of the points in the trade agreement between Indonesia and the United States. The government is committed to finalizing this regulation.
The Draft Regulation on Critical and Strategic Minerals currently being prepared by the government focuses on the management of 47 types of critical minerals and 22 strategic minerals. “We will try to fulfill our national commitments,” he said.
This regulation incorporates Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) parameters while considering environmental and social aspects. The Presidential Regulation will optimize cross-ministerial/institutional collaboration in the mineral and coal sector, thereby impacting national revenue growth.
