Government Finalizes RPerpres on Palm Oil Governance

Dida Gardera, Expert Staff to the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, stated that the government is finalizing the RPerpres of the President on the National Action Plan for Sustainable Palm Oil (Rancangan Peraturan Presiden tentang Rencana Aksi Nasional Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan – “RPerpres RAN-KSB”). This regulation will serve as a reference for regional governments to update their respective sustainable palm oil action plans.

"We are currently in the process of finalizing the RPerpres on the National Action Plan for Sustainable Palm Oil, which regional heads are certainly awaiting," said Dida.

According to Dida, the RPerpres RAN-KSB will complement the Regulation of the President on Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) in promoting sustainable palm oil governance. This RPerpres serves as a legal framework and strategic planning guideline, whereas ISPO functions as a sustainability certification standard.

The RPerpres RAN-KSB also expands the scope of the sustainable palm oil action plan to cover the entire value chain, from upstream to downstream sectors. Regulatory responsibilities will be divided between the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.

Prof. Ermanto Fahamsyah, a Professor of Economic Law at the University of Jember and a member of the GAPKI Expert Council, previously explained that the upstream sector, including cultivation, falls under the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs. Meanwhile, the downstream sector, encompassing downstream processing, financing, and bioenergy, will be regulated by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.
