The Government is preparing a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Peraturan Pemerintah Pengganti Undang-Undang – “Perppu”) on the Eradication of Economic Crimes and the Recovery of the National Economy. The regulation would enable the Prosecutor’s Office to establish a Task Force to handle economic crime cases in an integrated manner under a single prosecution system.
“Yes, that is correct, but it is still under discussion at the Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes,” said an internal source at the Attorney General’s Office who requested anonymity.
Based on the Draft Perppu obtained by Hukumonline, Economic Crimes would encompass cross-sector crimes that meet a specified threshold of losses to the National Economy. These include manipulation in the capital market and the financial sector that is systemic in nature and capable of triggering crisis conditions.
“So it is not only about Economic Crimes, but also about the recovery of the national economy,” the source added.
