Government Prepares Improvements to Draft Law on Amendments to Criminal Code

The government is discussing the improvement of the Draft Law on Amendments to Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (“ KUHP ”) (“ RUU Amendment to the Criminal Code ”).

Member of the Criminal Code Expert Team Yenti Ganarsih said that in the three-year transition period since 2023, the government has prepared a Government Regulation for its implementation. However, along the way, there are things that need to be fixed so that the implementation of the law is effective.

"In order to prepare the Government Regulation, it is not the substance that must be discussed. What we found was a mistake or a typo," Yenti told Hukumonline.

In addition, the team will also refine Article 100 related to the death penalty. "There are several related articles that are somewhat contradictory. So we will fix it later," she said.
