The Statistics Indonesia (“BPS”) is revising Government Regulation No. 51 of 1999 concerning the Implementation of Statistics (“PP 51/1999”). This regulatory amendment is being carried out in collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs to strengthen the integration of agricultural data within the national statistical system.
“The need for national statistical data, including economic statistical data, has become increasingly complex. Therefore, the revision of PP 51/1999 is a very important step,” stated Deputy Head of BPS, Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi.
One of the main substantive changes in the revision is the removal of the phrase “non-agricultural” from the provisions governing the Economic Census. This measure is intended to broaden the scope of the census to make it more inclusive by incorporating the agricultural sector into the 2026 Economic Census.
These amendments are also necessary to accommodate developments in the digital economy, green economy, and blue economy, as well as changes in increasingly dynamic public transactions and production patterns.
Currently, the revision process for PP 51/1999 is underway through the Initiative Permit mechanism, overseen by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs together with the State Secretariat.
