The government is preparing a draft regulation for human rights protection in the fisheries sector. This regulation aims to ensure that businesses respect the human rights of individuals involved in fisheries activities, including crew members and surrounding communities.
“Last year, we completed the analysis and evaluation. This year, the target is a draft Ministerial Regulation on Fisheries Human Rights Certification,” said Mardiana Setyaning, Head of the Fisheries Vessel Manning Work Sub-Team at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, to hukumonline.com.
The Fisheries Human Rights Certification process is designed to assess and ensure fisheries businesses' compliance with human rights systems. This requirement is stipulated in Ministerial Regulation of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries No. 35 of 2015 on the System and Certification of Human Rights in Fisheries Business ("Permen KP 35/2015").
The new certification regulation is also expected to prevent human rights violations and address the impacts of such violations.
