Business actors are urging the government to implement several incentive policies for the domestic retail sector. Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Retailers and Shopping Center Tenants (HIPPINDO), Budiharjo Iduansjah, stated that there are several recommendations have been presented to the government to improve the retail climate in the country.
Budiharjo encouraged the government to simplify the importation of finished goods, which are often purchased by consumers when traveling abroad or through proxy purchasing services (jasa titip). According to him, the variety of goods available domestically remains incomplete, and current regulations make importing these goods difficult.
“What we hope for is that the government, if they pay taxes on imports, open stores, and create jobs, should make it easier. Just open it up,” said Budiharjo.
Budiharjo further emphasized that recognition and incentives are particularly needed for retail industries that comply with regulations. He encouraged the provision of stimuli, such as reduced taxes, which can alleviate the burden on businesses.
