Member of Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR) Deddy Yevri Hanteru Sitorus requested the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency to balance investment and land programs by encouraging regional governments to actively propose customary land (tanah ulayat) certification.
“There must be efforts to speed up the process. Don't just focus on business. The population continues to grow, but land is becoming scarcer,” he told Hukumonline.
Yevri urged the establishment of regulations in the form of Regulation of the Minister or Regulation of the Government. The aim is to avoid conflicts between communities, business actors, and industries, as well as to provide legal certainty.
Before establishing regulations, he said, the government can map out conditions such as land redistribution, human resources for employment, the balance between business and community needs, population growth rates in relation to business needs for land, investment, and guarantees of customary rights.
