Commission IV of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (“DPR RI”) has opened the option of increasing the percentage of rice stocks for Perum Bulog in the Draft Bill on the amendment to Law No. 18 Tahun 2012 on Food (“Food Law”).

A member of the Commission IV Rokhmin Dahuri stated that the current 10 percent of rice stored from the national harvest by Bulog needs to be reviewed. He compared this to China, which stores 70 percent of its rice harvest as a buffer reserve.

“This context is very relevant because we, Commission IV, are currently revising the food law,” said Rokhmin.

According to him, such changes could be made and could be one of the points of revision in the drafting of the new Food Draft Bill. Increasing the percentage to 20 or 30 percent is considered feasible in the revision of the law.

“Once again, if it’s 10 percent, I’m doubtful,” he emphasized.
