In Preparation for the Implementation of the EUDR 2027, the Ministry of Industry Prepares Regulatory Support for Agricultural Commodities

​​The Ministry of Industry (“Kemenperin”) through the Directorate-General of Agriculture, has begun taking strategic steps to prepare for the implementation of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (“EUDR”), which is scheduled to take effect in 2027. 

As a form of support, Kemenperin is currently assessing the need to draft regulations for various affected agro-commodities, not limited to palm oil but also including other commodities such as cocoa and coffee. Secretary of the Directorate-General of Agro Industry Yulia Astuti stated that the government is coordinating with relevant associations to prepare all necessary regulations for each agricultural commodity that will be affected by this policy. 

“Yes, that’s right. Everything will be prepared in preparation for the EUDR,” Yulia told Hukumonline.

​According to her, the regulatory model being prepared will adopt the framework of Regulation of the Minister of Industry No. 38 of 2025 on Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (“ISPO”) Certification for the Downstream Palm Oil Industry (“Regulation 28/2025”), with an emphasis on commodity practices that uphold traceability and are free from deforestation issues. In addition, Kemenperin is optimizing digital systems to ensure the national industry’s readiness to meet international standards.
