Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, Director General of International Trade Negotiations (“ Dirjen PPI ”) at the Ministry of Trade, revealed that negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (“ FTA ”) between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union (“ EAEU ”) are currently still focused on the goods trade sector. Nonetheless, the government does not rule out the possibility of expanding the scope of the cooperation in the future.

“At this stage, the focus is still on goods trade. So we have not yet addressed other aspects such as services, investment, and various other elements,” said Djatmiko.

According to Djatmiko, these elements are usually included in negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which has a broader scope. However, he emphasized that the door remains open for the development of other areas of cooperation, such as services and investment.

He noted that there is still significant opportunity to expand into other aspects if the FTA proves successful. “In the future, we have the opportunity to broaden the scope,” he concluded.
