The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta is currently drafting a Governor Regulation on the Utilization and Control of Damage to Mangrove Ecosystems (“RPergub”). This regulation is a derivative of Regulation of the Government No. 27 of 2025 on the Protection and Management of Mangrove Ecosystems (“PP 27/2025”).
“Mangrove ecosystems need to be strengthened because they have high ecological and economic value. Therefore, protection and sustainable utilization are necessary,” said Asep Kuswanto, Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency.
This draft regulation sets out mechanisms for controlling ecosystem damage through mitigation, rehabilitation, restoration, and community empowerment. It also provides the regulatory framework for the utilization of mangroves both within and outside forest areas. The Draft Governor Regulation is planned to be integrated into Jakarta’s long-term development plan.
