The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) is currently accelerating the implementation of the Standard Inpatient Class System (Kelas Rawat Inap Standar- “ KRIS ”) in referral hospitals. This measure is undertaken to support a competency-based scheme for participants of the National Health Insurance (“ JKN ”).

“We intend to implement a single standard for inpatient care classes. However, taking into account differing views that the change should not be implemented too drastically, it has been decided to apply two inpatient care classes, namely rooms with two beds and rooms with four beds,” stated the Director General of Advanced Health Services, Azhar Jaya, to Hukumonline.

The implementation of the KRIS system will be divided into two categories, namely: rooms accommodating a maximum of two beds, and rooms accommodating a maximum of four beds. This arrangement will be regulated under the Draft Amendment to Regulation of the President (“ Perpres ”) on Health Insurance.

The main challenges faced by hospitals in meeting the KRIS criteria include the availability of nurse call systems and oxygen outlets at each bed, as well as the use of perforated curtains. In addition, the provision of bathrooms that meet accessibility standards constitutes a further challenge.
