The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (“Komdigi”) is currently mapping various regulations that are scattered across different sectors. The Government intends to consolidate these existing regulations into a single, comprehensive National Digital Law framework in order to provide greater clarity and integration to Indonesia's digital policy direction.
“In the next three years, we will synchronize a number of fragmented regulations into a single comprehensive regulatory framework,” said Sonny Hendra Sudaryana, Director of Digital Ecosystem Development at the Directorate General of Digital Ecosystem of Komdigi.
This codification is expected to serve as an overarching legal framework for future technologies, including the artificial intelligence (“AI”)-driven economy and a more integrated national data governance regime. It is also intended to support the Government's target of achieving 8% economic growth through the principle of "compliance for growth."
“We will align the revised Regulation of the Government No. 71 of 2019 on the Organization of Electronic Systems and Transactions (“PP PSTE”) with Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection (“PDP Law”), Law No. 36 of 1999 on Telecommunications (“Telecommunications Law”), and other sector-specific regulations so that the regulatory framework is no longer fragmented along sectoral lines or operating in silos," he explained.
