The number of foreign workers will be limited and the requirements for them to work in Indonesia will be tightened. This regulation is included in the discussion of the Draft Bill on Manpower.
“Regarding foreign workers, the Draft Bill provides regulations and restrictions on foreign workers who are truly needed," said Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (“DPR RI”), Yahya Zaini, to Hukumonline.
Through this regulation, the criteria for foreign workers are tightened. Only foreign workers with special skills and expertise will be allowed to work in Indonesia. This is to prevent unskilled foreign workers from entering and being employed domestically.
"So it won't be like now, where low-skilled workers from China can work in Indonesia," said Yahya.
