Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (“Komdigi”) participated in discussions on the revision of Law No. 28 of 2014 on Copyrights (“Law 28/2014”). Deputy Minister of Komdigi, Nezar Patria, said that the revision is carried out to accommodate rapid developments in digital technology, including artificial intelligence (AI).
“So the Copyright Draft Bill is being harmonized with the Regulation of the President (“Regulation”) on AI, because this AI study is also related to Copyright,” Nezar told Hukumonline.
This revision also takes into account Decision of the Constitutional Court (“MK”) No. 84/PUU-XXI/2023 (“Decision 84/2023”) which reaffirms the basic principles of copyright protection in Indonesia, particularly on the expansion of Article 10 and Article 114 of Law 28/2014 on the scope of trade centers, which are not only physical but also include the digital realm.
“The target is that by the end of this month, Komdigi will be able to move on to the next stage,” said Nezar.
