The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral – “ESDM”) has confirmed that the Joint Utilization of Transmission Networks (Pemanfaatan Bersama Jaringan Transmisi – “PBJT”) scheme in the Draft Bill on New and Renewable Energy (Rancangan Undang-Undang Energi Baru dan Energi Terbarukan – (“RUU EBET”) has a different purpose from the power wheeling scheme, which allows private entities to sell electricity directly to the public.
“If there’s no power wheeling; it’s only joint utilization, so it only applies to Business Areas (Wilus),” said Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director-General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (Energi Baru Terbarukan dan Konservasi Energi/EBTKE).
Although it differs from the power wheeling concept, Eniya has not yet confirmed the continuation of the scheme in RUU EBET. According to Eniya, there has been no further discussion of RUU EBET between the Government and the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI). However, Eniya confirmed that there will be internal discussions within the Ministry of ESDM regarding the PBJT scheme.
“But all of this will still be discussed further with the Minister,” she added.
