The government intends to amend the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number 75 of 2019 on the Roadmap for the Reduction of Waste by Producers (PermenLHK 75/2019).
“There are several Regulations of the Minister that will be revised, potentially including Regulation of the Minister Number 75. However, we are awaiting the minister's directive,” stated Deputy Minister of Environment Diaz Hendropriyono to hukumonline.com.
The regulation is an effort by the government to reduce the national waste volume. Producers are asked to be responsible for their products from the stage of waste reduction planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting.
This regulation outlines the roadmap for the reduction of waste by producers' efforts for the period 2020-2029, with a target of reducing waste generated by producers by 30 percent compared to the amount generated in 2029.
Producers in question are business actors in the manufacturing sector (food and beverage industry, consumer goods industry, cosmetics and body care industry), food and beverage services (restaurants, cafés, hotels, catering services), as well as retail (shopping centers, modern stores, traditional markets).
