Ministry of ESDM Expands the Scope of the SKEM Label for Electronic Equipment

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (“ESDM”), through the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (“EBTKE”), is currently preparing several Decrees of the Minister (“Kepmen”) on mandatory labeling with the Minimum Energy Performance Standard (Standar Kinerja Energi Minimum - “SKEM”) for various electronic appliances. This policy forms part of the roadmap for the implementation of SKEM for the 2021–2029 period.

Director of Energy Conservation Gigih Udi Atmo stated that nine types of household appliances are currently required to comply with energy performance standards. This number will increase with the implementation of mandatory labeling requirements for induction cookers.

“So far, we already have nine household appliances that are mandatorily subject to energy performance standards, and this year we will add more,” he said.

Gigih further explained that the Ministry of ESDM will soon issue a Decrees of the Minister regulating the mandatory SKEM labeling for induction cookers, following the completion this year of the energy-efficiency standard testing process for such electric cooking appliances. Accordingly, induction cookers will become the 10th type of household appliance required to comply with SKEM, following its implementation for, among others, air conditioners, refrigerators, and televisions.

Going forward, the SKEM roadmap also includes the implementation of mandatory labeling requirements for various other electronic appliances, including washing machines, irons, blenders, electric motors, and other electronic equipment.
