Ministry of Industry Evaluates Mandatory SNI for Bottled Drinking Water

The Ministry of Industry (“Kemenperin”) is currently evaluating Regulation of the Minister of Industry No. 62 of 2024 on the Mandatory Implementation of Indonesian National Standards (“SNI”) for Bottled Drinking Water (“AMDK”) (“Regulation 62/2024”). This evaluation opens the possibility of revising the regulation, although a decision regarding changes to the provisions on the mandatory implementation of SNI has not yet been made.

Raeshifa Diani Almy, Head of the Center for the Formulation, Implementation, and Enforcement of Industrial Standardization at the Ministry of Industry, stated that discussions are still ongoing to determine whether the provisions in the Permenperin need to be revised.

“Discussions are currently underway regarding Permenperin No. 62 of 2024 on mandatory SNI for AMDK, but no decision has been made yet on whether the mandatory enforcement provisions of this regulation will be revised,” she said.

Yuni Herlina Harahap, Head of the Center for Standardization and Services for the Agro-Industrial Sector (“BBSPJIA”) of Kemenperin, added that the evaluation and refinement of mandatory SNI policies must be conducted on an ongoing basis. This step aims to ensure that the policies remain relevant to consumer protection needs and technological developments, while also streamlining business licensing processes through an integrated system.
