The Directorate General of Intellectual Property (Direktorat Jenderal Kekayaan Intelektual – “DJKI”) of the Ministry of Law is reviewing the implementation of single-gateway music royalty collection system currently applied in the United Kingdom. This will serve as a reference for revising Law No. 28 of 2014 on Copyright, as amended by Law No. 1 of 2026 on Criminal Adjustments (collectively referred to as "Law 28/2014"). The scheme is considered capable of reducing administrative burdens and making it easier for commercial music users to make royalty payments.
"We want to ensure that royalty governance in Indonesia becomes simpler, more transparent, and pro-creator," stated the Director General of Intellectual Property ("Dirjen KI"), Hermansyah Siregar.
With this system, businesses will only need a single contract and a single invoice, thereby reducing bureaucratic complexity. In addition, the government is also developing the National IP Roadmap 2026–2035, ensuring that intellectual property becomes a foundation for national economic growth.
