The Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (“PPN/Bappenas”) is currently preparing the development of policies and strengthening the regulatory framework for aquatic food. Deputy for Food, Natural Resources, and the Environment, Leonardo Adypurnama Teguh Sambodo, emphasized the need to establish aquatic food regulations to support the government's food and nutrition programs.
“So, the current regulations may not be at the level of law but at the operational level. They can connect this blue food development initiative with major national programs aimed at improving food and nutrition,” he said.
Leonardo explained that the main focus of aquatic food policy is sustainable production, reducing the environmental footprint, and the inclusion of small-scale actors. Meanwhile, the recommended regulatory framework includes reducing the policy gap on climate adaptation and sustainable use, strengthening coordination between authorities, improving supervisory capacity, and increasing legal recognition and protection for business actors.
