The Ministry of Trade is promoting a number of recommendations to maintain the competitiveness of fishery products in the international market, particularly in the face of reciprocal tariffs imposed by the United States. Senior Policy Analyst at the Center for International Trade Policy Dian Dwi Laksani is promoting policies ranging from institutional strengthening, regulation, and compliance with international standards.
“The United States is the main market for Indonesian fishery product exports. We have the potential to develop this market,” she explained.
Dian outlined that in addition to conducting diplomacy on the tariffs imposed and resolving several international trade negotiations as alternative markets, other steps need to be taken. One of these is strengthening the Indonesian Anti-Dumping Committee (Komite Anti Dumping Indonesia - “KADI”) and the Indonesian Trade Security Committee (Komite Pengamanan Perdagangan Indonesia/KPPI).
Regulatory strengthening is necessary, particularly to avoid practices that circumvent Anti-Dumping Import Duty (Bea Masuk Anti Dumping - “BMAD”) and Safeguard Import Duty (Bea Masuk Tindak Pengamanan - “BMTP”) through the formulation of anti-circumvention regulations. “In addition, compliance with international certification standards for fishery products is necessary,” concluded Dian.
