The Chairman of the Legislative Body (Badan Legislasi – “Baleg”) of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Republik Indonesia – “DPR RI”), Bob Hasan, stated that national data governance will eventually be centralized under a new agency within the Ministry of National Development Planning (Perencanaan Pembangunan Nasional – “PPN”)/National Development Planning Agency (Badan Perencanaan Pembangunan Nasional – “Bappenas”). This provision is planned to be regulated under the Draft Bill on One Data Indonesia.
“A One Data Indonesia Agency will be established within Bappenas,” Bob told Hukumonline.
Through this regulation, the government aims to address interoperability issues in data governance. As a result, the Central Statistics Agency (Badan Pusat Statistik – “BPS”) will no longer serve as the sole reference for ministries and agencies in obtaining the data they require.
“If there are still gaps, the One Data Indonesia Agency will assist BPS in the development of statistics. Statistics are the result of processed data,” Bob explained.
