The Ministry of Environment (Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup – “KLH”) or the Environmental Control Agency (Badan Pengendalian Lingkungan Hidup – “BPLH”) has assured that industry and investment will not suffer losses as a result of the new regulation on emission quality standards. These provisions are currently being regulated under the Draft Regulation of the Minister of Environment (“Minister”) on the Control of Air Pollution from Stationary Emission Sources.
“We don’t want this environmental regulation to create unnecessary difficulties or cause economic losses,” said Edward Nixon Pakpahan, Director of Air Quality Protection and Management, in a statement to Hukumonline.
Under the draft regulation, the government sets out measures to improve industrial systems and technologies to ensure that emissions meet the applicable standards. This policy is intended to prevent further deterioration in air quality.
“Investors should no longer be upset with environmental stakeholders. Instead, this regulation should be leveraged as an opportunity to strengthen corporate image and branding,” Nixon added.
