The Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (“PPN/Bappenas”) is promoting the adoption of new principles in business competition regulation. The Director of Industry, Trade, and Investment Promotion at the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas, Roby Fadillah, emphasized that the adoption of the principle of extraterritoriality is one of the key points.

“How Indonesia can deal with business competition violations that have cross-border implications,” said Roby in his presentation.

This principle is intended to strengthen Indonesia's legal basis in addressing competition violations committed by actors abroad but which have an impact on the domestic market. It is important to harmonize policies and modernize competition law to make it more adaptive to cross-sector dynamics and technology-based business models.

PPN/Bappenas believes that the enforcement of competition law needs to utilize data and technology to improve the capacity to detect and handle unhealthy practices.

In addition, PPN/Bappenas also encourages strengthening compliance through increasing literacy and providing incentives to business actors. These efforts are complemented by strengthening international collaboration and global benchmarking to ensure that national policies are in line with best practices in various countries.
