New Regulation by the Kemenhub to Increase Parking Tariffs

The Ministry of Transportation (“ Kemenhub ”) is currently drafting Regulation of the Minister of Transportation (“ Menteri ”) on parking facilities. Ahmad Yani, Secretary of the Directorate General of Land Transportation, stated that there is a possibility of increasing parking tariffs.

“It is certainly possible, considering recent developments and parking management,” Yani told Hukumonline.

Kemenhub considers parking facilities to be an instrument for controlling traffic demand. “It is possible that parking tariffs in city centers will be higher, while those in outlying areas will be lower. That can be implemented,” said Yani.

The draft regulation is intended to replace the previous regulation, Decree of the Minister No. KM 66 of 1993 on Public Parking Facilities (“ Kepmenhub 66/1993 ”). Kemenhub is still finalizing the key points of the proposed changes.

“It is not yet finalized,” Yani stated.
