OJK Tightens Financial Reporting Integrity Requirements in the Digital Asset Industry

The Financial Services Authority (“OJK”) is currently finalizing a Draft OJK Regulation (“RPOJK”) on Financial Reporting Integrity for Digital Financial Asset Innovation (Inovasi Aset Keuangan Digital – “IAKD”) Providers. This preventive measure is intended to ensure transparency, clear segregation of funds (segregation of duties), and accountability in financial reporting within Indonesia’s digital asset industry.

“Same activities, same risk should mean same regulation in the financial sector. This means that when an innovation engages in activities and carries risks comparable to those of other financial-sector activities, equivalent prudential and consumer protection standards should also apply,” said Adi Budiarso, OJK’s Chief Executive of Financial Sector Technology Innovation, Digital Financial Assets, and Crypto Assets Supervision.

The RPOJK is particularly significant given the continued growth of public participation in crypto assets in Indonesia, with the number of consumer accounts reaching 22.93 million as of July 2026. The proposed regulation would also require IAKD Providers to establish robust internal control over financial reporting, including strict prohibitions against manipulation, false recordkeeping, and transaction volume manipulation (wash trading).

“We are targeting early 2027 at the earliest, with the deliberations expected to be completed by the end of this year,” he added.
