The Legislation Body (“Baleg”) of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (“DPR RI”) is exploring the possibility of regulating data integration between the government and the private sector through the One Data Indonesia (“SDI”) Draft Bill. This regulation aims to strengthen the national database, particularly in strategic sectors such as Natural Resources (“SDA”) and energy.
“The SDI Draft Bill includes provisions on interoperability, namely coordinating the use of data from all ministries and agencies, including the private sector,” said Bob Hasan, Chairman of the Baleg of DPR RI, to Hukumonline.
Data integration from the private sector is considered crucial, given that business entities often possess more up-to-date data on potential SDA resulting from their own exploration efforts. Further regulations will address specific limitations regarding data classified as trade secrets or corporate intellectual property.
“At a minimum, there will be restrictions, even though the SDI Draft Bill does not infringe upon the rights of business owners (the private sector) regarding data,” said Bob.
