The Indonesian Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (“P2MI”) is preparing Draft Regulation of the Minister/Agency on the Empowerment of Indonesian Migrant Workers (“PMI”) and their Families. This regulation will serve as the Technical Guidelines for the People's Business Credit (“KUR”) in regions that are the origin of Migrant Workers.
“The issuance of the Regulation of the Minister/Agency can encourage Migrant Workers who have returned to Indonesia to obtain KUR so they can start a business or pursue other opportunities,” said Wahyudi Putra, Head of the Legal Affairs Bureau of KP2MI, to Hukumonline.
The drafting of this Regulation of the Minister/Agency serves as the basis for the implementation by the Ministry of P2MI/Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (“BP2MI”) to enhance the independence and well-being of Migrant Workers through empowerment programs. These programs include entrepreneurship training, access to capital, and business mentoring, which are key to empowering PMI to achieve economic independence.
“Currently, it is in the Inter-Ministerial Discussion phase,” he added.
