Commission IV of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat - “DPR”) proposed the establishment of omnibus law in the marine affairs and fisheries sector. One of the ideas is to cut the bureaucracy for licensing.

“This omnibus law includes licensing (matters) for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (Usaha Mikro Kecil dan Menengah - “UMKM”), business actors, investors, who will conduct business at sea. They will not conduct long bureaucracy,” said a member of Commission IV of DPR, Saadiyah Uluputty, to Hukumonline.

The example of business licensing is Location Permit at Sea, Suitability of Space Utilization Activities (Kesesuaian Kegiatan Pemanfaatan Ruang - “KKPR”) at Sea, and Business Licensing in Fishing Subsector. The simplicity is hoped to maximize the potential resource processing and increasing national economy.

“If they become one (regulation), it will make things easier,” said Saadiyah.
