PT PLN (Persero) requires several policy supports and special incentives for hydrogen development in Indonesia. According to Ricky Cahya Andrian, Vice President of Decarbonization at PT PLN (Persero), one of the potential obstacles to hydrogen development is the imposition of import duties on hydrogen-based electric vehicles and electrolyzers for hydrogen production.
"Hopefully, hydrogen can also get import duty exemptions, including the electrolyzer," Ricky said.
In addition to import duty exemptions, Ricky outlined the need for support in hydrogen development, including stimulating demand for green hydrogen, facilitating green hydrogen production, and incubating the hydrogen ecosystem. In terms of stimulating demand, he emphasized the importance of creating a hydrogen mandate in industries such as fertilizers and transportation with hydrogen-based electric vehicles.
Ricky also urged the government to provide special price incentives for hydrogen production. He believes that with PLN's extensive electricity network and abundant water supply, special price incentives could significantly boost hydrogen production in Indonesia.
"Is it possible? If there is, let's say the special hydrogen tariff drops," he explained.
