PT PLN (Persero) requires a number of policy assistance and special incentives for hydrogen development in Indonesia. The Vice President of Decarbonization at PT PLN (Persero), Ricky Cahya Andrian, stated that one of the potential obstacles to hydrogen development is the implementation of import duty on hydrogen-based electric vehicles and electrolyzers for hydrogen development.
“Hopefully hydrogen zero also (can receive import duty exemption), including the electrolyzer,” said Ricky.
In addition to the need for import duty exemption, Ricky also outlined the support needed in hydrogen development, starting from demand stimulus for green hydrogen, green hydrogen production facilities, and hydrogen ecosystem incubation. In the demand stimulus, Ricky emphasizes the importance of creating hydrogen mandates in industries such as fertilizers and transportation with hydrogen-based electric vehicles.
Meanwhile, Ricky also urged the government to provide special price incentives for hydrogen production. According to Ricky, with the extensive PLN electricity network and abundant water supply, special price incentives could encourage more massive hydrogen production in Indonesia.
"Is it possible? If there is, let's say the special hydrogen tariff price goes down," he explained.
