The Legislation Body (“Baleg”) of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (“DPR RI”) proposes social security for domestic workers (pekerja rumah tangga - “PRT”) in the Draft Bill on the Protection of Domestic Workers (“PPRT Draft Bill”). The Chairman of Baleg DPR RI, Bob Hasan, said that he would coordinate with the Social Security Agency (“BPJS”).
“The issue will be handled by the government, or the employer, or registered by the employer, that is the mechanism. This must certainly be coordinated with stakeholders such as BPJS for Employment and BPJS for Health,” Bob told Hukumonline.
Bob noted that the cost of social security contributions could be borne by employers. This is outlined in the proposed Article 15 letter f, which states that PRT is entitled to health social security as recipients of contribution assistance. Article 15 letter g specifies that they are entitled to employment social security.
“I believe it should be the employer's responsibility if the cost is not too high,” he concluded.
